Since I was born and raised in East Germany, or the GDR (German Democratic Republic), which was reunited with West Germany in 1989 and I formerly was - for instance - a so called "Jungpionier" during primary school and surrounded by Soviet influences, I am particular interested in the past of the UDSSR and their influence of our lifes in the GDR between the World War II and the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and beyond. Even now (2016+) a lot of people are living in soviet like buildings which we call the "Platte" here in East Germany. I find it somehow fascinating that after almost 30 years after the collapse the Soviet influences are still so visible in such important aspects such as living room and still many people here live like the people in Prypjat, Jekaterinburg, Wladiwostok or somewhere else in the former Soviet Union. However, all photos of this gallery are created in East Germany in 2016 (or later). I had the idea of doing something like this in my mind for almost ten years now. I still have lots of ideas for this project but to create the desired mood for the images I have to find the right places, the correct light, weather and seasonal conditions... it is still work in progess.
Below you see some images from the gallery. Here is the link to the gallery with all the new images: Artifacts of Soviet Occupation
