In preparation of my next big photo trip I recently spent some nights car camping, testing what equipment I need to go on a photo expedition only by car (for maximum flexibility) for several weeks. For this particular day I wanted to hike to the "Carolafelsen" in the Saxony-Switzerland National Park, enjoy the scenery there, shoot sunset and then descend in the dark back to the car and explore some other locations the next day. Since it was Midsummer Night (the longest day of the year) and I already know this location, I've scouted the suns position with the Photographers Ephemeris ... Continue reading →

With its two summits Tjeldbergtinden is the table mountain of the area between Svolvaer and Kabelvåg. Even though it is "only" 367m high and by far not the highest mountain of the region both summits provide awesome panoramic views over the cities of Svolvaer, Kabelvåg and Vågan with the whole Vestfjord including Skrova and Litlmolla to the East and a lot of lakes like Stor- Kongsvatnet, Madsvatnet, Karlsvatnet and of course the impressive mountains Vågakallen (943m) to the South and Fløya (590m) to the North.
The start of the hike ... Continue reading →

Continue reading →

Bunes Beach is located pretty isolated on the western side of Reinefjorden, near Vindstad and Bunesfjorden on the Moskenesøya island, Norway. Next to Kvakvika Beach it is one of the most scenic beaches of the Lofoten. With its tuquoise waters and the white sandy beach it is a must-see location when visiting the Lofoten islands in Northern Norway.
To get there we catched the last regular ferry of the season from Reine to Vindstad at the end of August at about ten in the morning. If you don't want to camp and spend the night there be sure to check the ferry's ... Continue reading →

Kvalvika is located on the northern side of the Moskenesøya island. It is one of the most scenic beaches on the Lofoten. With its tuquoise waters and the golden sandy beach it is a must-see location when visiting the Lofoten islands in Northern Norway. You will find it quite isolated between some massive vertical cliffs and only accessable by foot for fit hikers. The surrounding mountains rise up more than 500 meter straight from the beach. The beach is an incredibly beautiful and quite a unique view to enjoy.
To get there follow the E10 and pass the twin-bridges ... Continue reading →

When visiting the Lofoten and especially Moskenesøya, Reinebringen should be on top of every hikers list. It is a relatively short but really steep and challenging hike (40% - 70%). Even though the summit is at only 448 meter it provides some of the best and breathtaking panoramic views of Reinefjorden, Kjerkfjorden, Reine, Sakrisøy, Hamnøy and the famous Lofoten Wall. It is recommened to wait for one or two dry days in a row so the mountainside can dry a bit and is not too wet and slippery. We did the hike on the end of august after one sunny day without rain and I think ... Continue reading →

Rundwanderung Hohnekamm bei Drei Annen Hohne
Notice: To all non-german speaking of you; I write the trip-reports done in Germany in german but all upcoming international trip-reports will be written in english.

Continue reading →

When we visited Rome a few weeks ago I had to realize that my current travel photo-backpack is not designed for long walks with heavy weight. In Rome we walked for hours each day and over 45km overall in three days. At the end of the second day my back hurts so bad that I could hardly move anymore. So the next day I only packed the absolute minimum equipment to carry through the city. Of course that day I missed a shot I could have nailed with another lens which I left in the hotel due to its weight. Of course I don't want this to happen again, hence this article.
When I planed and packed ... Continue reading →
